Temperatures are dropping, days are getting darker and we are all desperately searching for our beanie, gloves and those warm boots. Berlin turns into a giant outdoor freezer during winter, but the Christmas markets are keeping us warm. The city has over 90 Christmas markets this year. In this blog post, I will take you to my current top 5 favourite markets. I will also include some food recommendations. Let’s go!”
5. Medieval Christmas Market at the RAW Compound (Friedrichshain)
Known for its nightlife, “RAW Gelände” transforms into a medieval wonderland during Christmas. It’s one of the first markets which is open, so you can get an early start to get into the festive vibes. Grab a Lángos, a deepfried flatbread served with cheese. Or try a Baumstriezel, dough wrapped on a stick covered with a selection of toppings. The food offer is limited, but if you love a touch of fantasy, this small market is for you.

4. Christmas Market on Gendarmenmarkt (Bebelplatz)
This market is at one of Berlin’s most beautiful squares. Twinkling lights, wooden stalls and the scent of roasted almonds fill the air. Surrounded by historic buildings, it’s the perfect fancy place to sip Glühwein in style. I recommend going on weekdays, as weekends can get quite packed.

3. Lucia Christmas Market at Kulturbrauerei
Step into a Nordic winter wonderland at the Lucia Christmas Market. This market is inspired by a light goddess and filled with Nordic holiday traditions. From Swedish cinnamon buns to warm woolen scarves, it’s like a quick Christmas getaway to Scandinavia. This market is one of the most popular markets among Berliners due to its vibes and location.

2. Christmas Market in Alt-Rixdorf Neukölln (Richardplatz)
Located in the Neukölln district, Alt-Rixdorf’s Christmas market is like stepping straight into the 19th century. Cobblestone streets, charming stalls, and a warm atmosphere await you. This market is one of my favorites — visiting with friends has become a personal tradition! There used to be a hidden Raclette stand (somewhere in a tiny square on the south side of Richardplatz), but unfortunately, it vanished a few years ago. I’m still hopeful it will make a comeback in the future since there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to the food offerings at this market. Try the Glühwein in the small alley on the way to Zosse Biergarten or warm yourself up at the bonfire near the entrance of this Biergarten. From handmade crafts and candles to Glühwein and choir performances, this market offers an authentic, cozy holiday experience.

1. Christmas Market at the Humboldt Forum
A hidden gem and a must visit! Head to the Humboldt Forum’s winter market. This new market offers a mix of modern vibes. The international food stalls are a foodie’s paradise — make sure to arrive hungry and don’t leave without trying something new. They even serve Dutch Poffertjes at this market! This is an absolute must go for anyone who loves exploring international cuisines. Also, their alcohol free mulled wine is delicious, and it’s not too sweet.

Quick tip: I like to bring my own thermos cup — it’s super convenient! You can enjoy your Mulled Wine or Kinderpunsch while wandering around without worrying about returning the cup. It makes the experience smoother and keeps you warm on the go.
