I pretended to be a café owner on my birthday and transformed my apartment into a cozy little café. While thinking about the drink menu, I wanted a few non caffeinated and cold drinks. One of them was my homemade lemon iced tea, and the other was this sparkling pear schorle.

For anyone who hasn’t heard the term before, “schorle” is commonly used in Germany to describe a drink that is mixed with sparkling water, like juice or wine. I first came across it when I moved to Germany in 2015. At the beginning, I was skeptical, but it quickly adapted it. Now, I can’t imagine a summer without it. The most popular versions are “Weinschorle” (white wine with sparkling water) and “Apfelschorle” (apple juice with sparkling water). But there are endless possibilities. My personal favourites are rhubarb schorle and pear schorle. So of course, the pear version made it onto my café menu 😀
I like to use juice with a high fruit content (at least 50%) to keep the taste fresh and make it not too sweet. For the sparkle, I used my Aarke water machine, but San Pellegrino works beautifully too since it’s extra carbonated.
You can play around with the ratios, you can adjust them to your taste and to how sweet the juice is. For this drink, I like using about 2/3 pear juice and 1/3 sparkling water.
This drink is basically summer in a glass. I hope you like this pear schorle as much as I do! Let me know in case you have tried it and how you liked it.
