Red Wine Sauce

This red wine sauce with thyme, bay leaves and red onions is just ready in 40 minutes. It’s quick to prepare, it’s a perfect addition to your Christmas meal and I am nearly sure that everyone can make it. It is rich in flavour, thick and goes well with a vegetarian meat substitute, a steak or your roasted vegetables.

Ingredients
 

RED WINE SAUCE

  • 250 ml red wine
  • 125 ml mushroom stock
  • olive oil
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 6-7 sprigs thyme
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp flour

Instructions

RED WINE SAUCE

  • Warm up a saucepan over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
  • Chop the red onions into small rings and cut the garlic in half. Add the onions and garlic to the saucepan and sauté until translucent.
  • Add the red wine, mushroom stock, and balsamic vinegar. Add the thyme sprigs, bay leaves and cloves. Simmer over low-medium heat for 30 minutes.
  • Strain the red wine sauce using a fine sieve.
  • Return the sauce to the pan, add the flour and whisk over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
