Alcohol Free Mulled Wine

Hallo liebe Leute! I would like to introduce you to my alcohol free Glühwein recipe. I’m a big fan of mulled wine and came up with this alcohol free version a few years ago for my pregnant friends. Nowadays, I actually prefer this one over the version with alcohol.

In German, an alcohol free Glühwein is called Kinderpunsch, which literally means “children’s punch”. It’s next to the traditional mulled wine a popular warm drink during winter markets.

The base of classic mulled wine is red wine, but I decided to mix red berry juice with apple juice instead. I used typical winter spices like cinnamon, anise, cardamom and cloves and infused the juice with these spices. I like to let everything simmer slowly on low heat. I recommend simmering for at least 30 minutes, but the longer the better! I like to prepare this Glühwein recipe in advance. I usually simmer the juice and spices, then store it in the fridge (or leave it on the stove for up to 3 – 4 hours with the spices still in it). I reheat it once my friends arrive and serve it in a mug.

You can adjust the sweetness level by adding a bit of honey or agave syrup, depending on how sweet the juice already is. If you like this version, then you should definitely try my Mexican Ponche Navideño recipe with tamarind. It’s another cozy hot drink that’s perfect for the cold and dark days.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
