Virgin Mimosa (Non Alcoholic)

Virgin Mimosa

Hello good people! I explain in this post what Virgin Mimosas are and how to make them at home. This is a non alcoholic version of the classic Mimosa.

What is a Virgin Mimosa?

A Virgin Mimosa is a non alcoholic version of the classic Mimosa cocktail, which is made with half Prosecco and half orange juice.

Is a Virgin Mimosa alcoholic?

No, a Virgin Mimosa does not contain alcohol.

What kind of Prosecco do you use?

The original Mimosa recipe is made with Prosecco. For this recipe, I use a non alcoholic Prosecco. A great option I recently discovered is Nozeco, a French alcohol free sparkling wine, but you can use any non alcoholic Prosecco you like.

Oranges

Here’s where you can make a difference. While many people use orange juice from a carton or bottle, I use fresh oranges. It tastes so much better when you squeeze them yourself. It usually takes a bit more effort, but it’s worth it.

The cost difference isn’t huge since you don’t need that much juice, especially if you use similar glasses to mine. Fresh juice has a natural sweetness, while store-bought orange juice is often too sour and too thin.

I like to use Valencian oranges from Valencia and usually go for the “juicy” ones, as they give more juice. Valencia is one of the sunniest cities in Europe, with over 300 days of sunshine a year, and you can really taste that extra sweetness in the oranges.

How many oranges do you need?

An average medium-sized orange gives around 70–80 ml (1/3 cup, 2.5 fl oz) of juice. Smaller oranges give less, around 45–60 ml (1/4 cup, 2 fl oz), while larger ones can give around 100–150 ml (1/2 cup, 3.4–5 fl oz).

I use a non alcoholic Prosecco for this recipe. A great option is Nozeco, a French alcohol free sparkling wine produced by Les Grands Chais de France near Bordeaux.

Virgin Mimosa variations

You can easily adapt this recipe depending on what you have at home. Try using tonic water instead of non alcoholic Prosecco for a slightly more bitter version. Tonic water is usually a bit cheaper as well and less hard to find.

Serving tips for a Virgin Mimosa

I like to serve this Virgin Mimosa in a champagne glass. I found these vintage Prosecco glasses with a blue stem at the flea market in Mauerpark, Berlin. I gave them a deep clean and have been happily using them ever since.
