Hi everyone! I have a very specific way of drinking fresh mint tea and in this blogpost I show you how to make fresh mint tea at home, so you can serve it to yourself or your friends. It is one of the easiest recipes I have ever shared, but it is good, so I could not just skip it 😀
For this recipe I use only 4 ingredients: mint sprigs, fresh ginger, honey and lemon. You can use any other sweetness you prefer, for example maple syrup or agave syrup.
In the video I say to bring the water to a boil, but I actually prefer serving my mint tea when it is not at 100°C (210°F). I take the kettle off the heat shortly before it switches off, so the water ends up somewhere around 80°C (175°F) to 90°C (195°F). I do not have a temperature indicator on my kettle, so I simply wait a few seconds after I hear it boiling.
Not everyone likes honey in their mint tea, so I usually serve the honey separately when I make it for a friend.
The electric kettle I am using in the video is from the Italian brand Alessi (not sponsored).
Hope you enjoy this fresh mint tea as much as I do. If you like hot drinks, then consider to browse on my hot drinks page for more recipes.
Fresh Mint Tea
Adjust servings here:
Equipment
- kettle or anything else that allows you to boil water
- skewer
Ingredients
- 2 sprigs mint leaves
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tsp honey
- a few slices ginger
Instructions
- Clean the lemon, ginger and mint leaves with water.
- Cut the ginger into thin slices. Pinch the slices onto a skewer and push them halfway onto it.
- Bring water to a boil.
- Add honey to a glass.
- Cut the lemon in half. Juice the lemon over the glass.
- Add a bit of the boiled water to the honey and lemon juice. Stir with a spoon so the honey dissolves and combines with the lemon juice.
- Add 2 sprigs of mint leaves. Place one upside down and the other one up.
- Add the ginger skewer.
- Top up with water. Let it steep for around 5 minutes.
Enjoy!
