Equipment

  • pot

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine cabernet sauvignon
  • 1 orange
  • 3 stars anise
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 15 cloves

Instructions

  • Cut 2 slices of the orange, each with a thickness of 1 cm (0.5 inch). Keep the slices apart and juice the rest of the orange.
  • Pinch the cloves into the orange slices.
  • In a pot, add red wine, orange slices, orange juice, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Cover with a lid and simmer for 15 minutes. Serve hot.

Notes

The wine should simmer, not boil, otherwise the alcohol will evaporate.
Additionally, you can add a “schuss” while serving, which means “shot” in German. This shot is typically Amaretto or rum liqueur. I personally prefer Amaretto, as it gives a bit of a nutty flavour to the wine.

Enjoy!
