Apple Turnovers
Pastries with Apple and Cinnamon Filling

Equipment

Ingredients
- 1 puff pastry 1 big or 6 small sheets of 12cmx12cm or 5"x5"
- 3 apples granny smiths
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 30 grams sugar
- a pinch salt
- 2 tbsp jam mixed berry or any other flavour
- 1 tbsp flour
- 3 tbsp raisons
- a bit butter
- 1 egg
OPTIONAL
- 2 tbsp pecan nuts
Instructions
- Peel the apples, remove and discard the core. Chop the apples into dices and add to a mixing bowl.
- Add sugar, cinnamon and a pinch of salt to the bowl and mix with a spoon.
- Heat up a frying pan on medium heat and melt a bit of butter.
- Add the apple mixture to the pan. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
- Add jam and mix the ingredients.
- Add flour until the mixture thickens. Switch off the heat. Add raisins, mix and set the pan aside. Cool for at least 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Cut the puff pastry into equal squares or use pre-cut sheets.
- OPTIONAL: If you like pecan nuts, chop and add them to the apple mixture.
- Add the filling to the pastry. Use a spoon to add the filling to the center, leave the edges free.
- Cover the edges with a tiny bit of water to help the dough stick.
- Close the pastries and use a fork to press the edges.
- Place the pastries on an oven tray lined with parchment paper.
- Beat an egg and brush the pastries. Sprinkle a bit of brown sugar on top.
- Make tiny vent holes with a skewer or fork.
- Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 200°C (400°F) until golden brown. Serve warm.
Notes
Consider serving these pastries as a dessert with vanilla ice cream and a few mint leaves.
