Happy summer everyone! It’s really warm in Berlin right now and this is a drink I have been enjoying a lot over the last couple of weeks. This Iced Chai Latte is the cold version of the famous Chai Latte. In this post I will show you how to make this drink at home. This recipe is perfect for anyone who wants to take a break from caffeinated drinks or just wants to try something new 🙂
What is Chai?
Chai is an infused drink from India made with aromatic spices such as cinnamon, ginger, star anise and cardamom. The spices are infused into the drink, which is then traditionally served warm. If you prefer to enjoy it warm, I recommend checking out my chai latte recipe I shared last year. The recipe went viral on Tiktok last year, and I must admit that I am very satisfied with recipe and think that there is a good balance between all flavours.
Iced Version
This is a summer version of traditional chai. For this recipe I used the same ingredients as in the warm version, but the method is slightly different. Instead of infusing the milk, I infused the water. This way you can keep the chai concentrate in the fridge and mix it whenever you feel like making this drink.
If you have watched the video, you may have noticed that I switched my milk frother to the cold frothing setting. I do this to make sure the drink is really cold, which makes it a refreshing treat on a hot summer day.
Milk
I used oat milk for this recipe because I had it at home, but it also tastes great with regular 3.5% cow milk.
Vegan
You are able to make this recipe vegan. Just use oat milk and replace the honey with another vegan sweetener, such as sugar, maple syrup or agave syrup.
Store the chai concentrate in the fridge for up to 10 days and give it a good shake before each use. Serve over ice and dust with a thin layer of cinnamon on top. Enjoy!
