Hola hungry amigos! If you would ask me, I would say this pan con tomate recipe is thé best Spanish breakfast. In Spanish, it’s called tostadas and they are traditionally served as breakfast, but it’s sometimes served as a snack or as a tapas.
It’s made with toasted bread, garlic, grated tomatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper. I love upgrading it with a bit of canned tuna. But also like it with a few slices of Manchego cheese or some sliced green olives. Simple but delicious 🙂
Spanish Pan Con Tomate
Toasted Bread with Grated Tomatoes, Garlic and Olive Oil

Equipment
- toaster or use a frying pan
- grater
- bread knife
Ingredients
- 4 tomatoes
- 1 ciabatta bread or french baguette*
- 2 garlic
- olive oil
- sea salt flakes
- mixed pepper
Instructions
- Cut the bread lengthwise with a bread knife, then slice the halves into pieces about 7 cm (3 inches) wide.
- Grate the tomatoes by cutting them in halves and pressing the flesh against the grater.
- Peel the garlic and cut it in half.
- Toast the bread.
- Once toasted, rub the garlic over the warm bread.
- Drizzle a bit of olive oil on top of the bread.
- Use a tablespoon to add the grated tomatoes, then top it with pepper and salt flakes.
Notes
*Use any crusty bread you like.
This is a simple Pan con Tomato recipe. You can upgrade the dish by adding slices of cheese, green olives and/or tuna.
